For those with Questions

How does this help the community?

Our nonprofit makerspace is 100% volunteer run, providing classes, tool access, and more to the Winona region. Volunteers help check in people for classes, assist in the shop, or serve as subject matter experts in a studio.

What are the requirements to be on the Volunteer Team?

Volunteers on the team must commit to spending fifteen hours a month in the space, signing up for open shifts. We ask that volunteers commit to the team for at least six months. You should be at least 18 years old, be able to pass a background check, and like working with people. We also ask you attend a required meeting each quarter, where we update you on new procedures or skills you might need.

Are there benefits for joining the volunteer team?

Volunteers will receive a special volunteer badge to the space, granting you the same 24/7 access as members. We love having volunteers around the studios even when you’re not on a shift, working on your projects and answering questions if people ask.

When are the trainings?

Currently, the volunteer trainings are scheduled for Wednesday July 1st from 5-7pm, Thursday July 2nd from 2-4pm, or Tuesday July 7th from 5-7pm. Volunteers must attend one of those three trainings.

What will I be doing as a volunteer?

Volunteers have a wide range of potential tasks, depending on your skillset and availability. Some volunteers will serve as “Subject Matter Experts”, focusing on a specific studio to help with tool maintenance, orientation, or maybe teaching. Other volunteers will help with cleaning the space, or working at the front desk answering questions, assisting with badges, checking in for classes, and more.

Do I need to be an expert to volunteer?

No! We care about your passion and ability to help others more than your expertise with a specific tool or area.
